Shower enclosures can be categorized by function into integrated units and simple enclosures; by style into corner units, inline screens, curved units, and bathtub screens; by base shape into square, circular, fan-shaped, and diamond-shaped units; by door structure into sliding, folding, and hinged-door models; and by panel material into tempered glass and acrylic.
Integrated shower enclosures offer more features and come at a higher price point; they generally cannot be custom-made. Integrated units equipped with steam functions are known as steam rooms; however, individuals with heart disease or hypertension, as well as children, should not use them unaccompanied. Unlike integrated units, simple shower enclosures lack a "roof" and come in a wide variety of styles. Their basic structure consists of a base-which may be a tray or a threshold made of artificial or natural stone-supporting acrylic or tempered glass panels. The base trays are available in materials such as ceramic, acrylic, and artificial stone, while the doors feature tempered glass in various finishes, including standard, premium, water-ripple, and fabric-patterned styles.
